Alex and Sam share an account. Sam spent $480 from it. Both of them are being reasonable and they still have a problem.

The message Alex almost sends
Start with what you’re actually thinking.
Alex — unsent draft
You spent $480 without mentioning it, and now I’m supposed to rearrange everything?
Unsent draft. Sam has not received this and is not told it was written.
Nothing is sent from here. The first thing anybody writes is usually the thing they would take back, and it is more useful to us than a tidier version would be.
Scene 1 of 6. The message Alex almost sends. Alex’s private view.
This demonstration shows both people’s private views so the sequence can be explained. Real participants never get that: you only ever see your own private view, and the other person only ever sees theirs.
